Holy Guacamole! This simple green galley hack will have you storing avocados on board for months.

1 Avocado

Juice from 1/2 a fresh lemon


  1. Mash a ripe avocado together with the juice of ½ a lemon.

  2. Once well combined add the mixture to a regular ice cube tray and cover with baking paper to avoid any freezer burn or excess ice forming on the surface of your avocado.

  3. Pop into the freezer to set.

  4. Remove from the freezer a few minutes before you require the smooth buttery goodness of an avocado. Once slightly thawed you can go about using this avocado as you normally would; on toast, like guacamole, or mixed into a salad. If left as frozen cubes, these also make the ideal smoothie addition. Blending a few frozen avocado cubes will add a creamy texture to your smoothie as well a nice dose of healthy fats, keeping you fuller for longer.

Lemon juice is a natural preservative that helps to reduce the oxidation or browning of the avocado when exposed to air over a longer period of time. Not only does the acidity of the lemon juice keep the color of your ripe avocado but it also provides a zesty, fresh flavor that can be enjoyed weeks after you have left the port. We recommend using these frozen avocado cubes within 4-6 months.
